My Pondering...
Reading this verse, it simply appears to mean being still to know God and He will be exalted.
With a little referencing and pulling the verse apart, it seems that the 'be still' is for us to hear from God and get instruction from Him.
This verse also has a meditative purpose for us. To slow down, self examine, and study the scriptures. The 'and know' has many definitions but they all have a connective quality of taking time to slow down, self examine, and study.
"Let us search and try our ways,
and turn again to the Lord."
~ Lamentations 3:40 ~
Being in the Word of God will be the avenue in which He transforms your heart to be closer to Him. And then it will be evident to those around you and He will be exalted.
"Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them;
that thy profiting may appear to all."
~ 1 Timothy 4:15 ~
We need to be still a little more in our Bible time to allow it's complete work in our lives.
So how can we slow down to comprehend more?
Here are a few things that help me sometimes...
(1) Use a Bible reading schedule -- typically one with more than one verse per day, but it doesn't have to necessarily be one where you read through the Bible in a year.
(2) Write down a section of the Bible daily.
(3) Study deeper on a verse or passage that you want to know more about -- my typical resources are Dr. J. Vernon McGee Commentary, the Matthew Henry commentary, and the Thompson Chain Reference Bible. I do have others, but those are the main ones...
(4) Study a book of the Bible.
During our current season of stay-at-home orders and we are (for most) in a slowed down season, are you using some of it to slow down and commune with God?
Drawing closer to Him will help us radiate His power through us and then we can resonate with the Psalmist in Psalm 19...
"Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart,
be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer."
~ Psalm 19:14 ~
